Introduction and Affirmations
Everyday life can be very challenging. As imperfect human beings, we are subjected to stress, heartache, insecurities, and much more (especially as college students). Through my own personal journey, I have discovered two passions of mine that can be intertwined to help benefit overall wellbeing. These two passions happen to be poetry and meditation.
I am sharing this all with you on this blog in hopes that you will take the initiative to be your own light in a world that can seem to be at times, filled with darkness.
Speaking of darkness, there will be days where you will doubt everything you do.
Is this assignment done well enough?
Did I not speak up enough during class?
Did I say the wrong thing to my friend earlier?
There will also be times where you will feel insecure in yourself.
Why did I say that?
I hate how I look today.
Why can't I seem to maintain simple things that tend to come so easily to others?
Most of the time, our brains will overload and over analyze tiny components of our lives that nobody else will seem to pick up on. That's why, sometimes, we need to take a step back, and clear our minds, while at the same time reaffirming ourselves.
This is where Affirmation Meditation comes in! Here is a step by step guide to help you get started.
- Figure out your affirmations: You can either write your own (which I highly recommend) or find a list online that applies to you. If you are not quite sure what affirmations are, and need some examples here's a good resource to help you out. Common affirmation techniques include using the phrase "I am _____". In some ways, this can be considered a form of creed or poetry.
- Set aside time to say your affirmations: Contrary to popular belief, medtitation does not always have to be sitting cross legging and humming "OOOOM". In fact, you could just be walking to class, waiting in between classes, or just enjoying some downtime in your dorm. Figure out when it is the best time for you. If you prefer to sit and meditate, that's completely fine, but just remember it's totally up to you.
- Setting up a medtitation routine: For students who have never meditated before, it can be a tough transition. That's why I highly recommend guided meditations. You can find playlists on Spotify or even Youtube, that can help guide you.
and with that, take the time to tell yourself, "I am worthy". 💖
